A diverse group of microscopic organisms that are all single celled and have a tough cell wall. Bacteria comprise the prokaryote kingdom: they have no nucleus or organelles. Most reproduce asexually through simple cell division. Bacteria live in a number of ways. Some feed on organic matter. Others, generally known as germs, feed on living things by causing disease.
